Spindle Whorls

Spindles are located on the under or middle parts of the spinners for the yarn to be twisted properly during spinning. They were made of stone, bone, or terracotta. They had a hole in the middle for the spinner to pass through. Spindle whorls pull down the rope with their weights, strengthening the rotation speed, keeping the string taut, and twisting. The weight and diameter of the spindle determine the quality of the spun thread.
