ARCHAIC PERIOD (700 BCE – 480 BCE)
During the Archaic Period, kingdoms were replaced by aristocratic governments. City-states, called Polis, was defined as the organized form of political and social life. Colonial cities named Apoikia were established in various parts of the Mediterranean, Marmara, and the Black Sea. Increased production as a result of the colonization movement brought enrichment to agriculture.
